The Early Years
Barbara, everyone called her Babs, Granholm founded Sand Key Realty in 1974 shortly after she obtained her Broker’s license which was a few years before women were allowed to apply for a credit card on their own! A maverick in her time, she played in a very male-dominated arena and had a reputation as tough but fair and independent but team oriented. The independent part stuck!
The Middle Years
Jim Robbins bought Sand Key Realty from Babs in 1989. Jim worked all the angles; networking with the other independent agencies on the island, focusing his agents’ skills on the condos that had sprung up over the last decade on Sand Key and Indian Rocks Beach, and recruited experienced agents over to Sand Key Realty. His traditions continue to this day!
Today…
In 2012, Jim retired and his agents, Brian Pelfrey (A former mortgage executive) and Jens Cavallius (a dual Ph.D in biology and chemistry) bought the brokerage. Having honed their skills with Sand Key Realty… the transition was seamless. Brian and Jens expanded the brokerage from South Clearwater Beach where the corporate office is located and added a new office at the Shoppes of Sand Key. They were (and remain) adamant that the brokerage stay independent (Sand Key Realty is the only independent brokerage left on Sand Key) but partnered with international powerhouses in the Real Estate space to increase Sand Key’s listing presence to a worldwide scope. Thus – the adage Locally Owned, Globally Connected was born. We don’t answer to a corporate parent in another state. We work solely for our clients and continue to push the envelope of technology, hire only those with local expertise, and put a personal touch into your real estate experience.
